Solution
Understand the method, then try it yourself
Geometry depends on the diagram as much as the words. Include the entire figure, labels, angle markers, and units in your photo. You can ask for a calculation or a proof, but identify which facts are given rather than assuming the drawing is to scale.
Worked example
A right triangle has legs 6 cm and 8 cm. Find the hypotenuse.
- Use the Pythagorean theorem because the triangle has a right angle: c² = a² + b².
- Substitute the two legs: c² = 6² + 8² = 36 + 64 = 100.
- Take the positive square root: c = 10 cm. This is longer than either leg, as a hypotenuse must be.
Tips for a useful explanation
- Do not infer equal lengths solely from how a diagram looks.
- Label area in square units and volume in cubic units.
- For a proof, state the theorem behind each deduction.
Read the worked steps, check the result against the original question, and explain the method in your own words. If a step is unclear, include your attempt and ask about that step. AI can make mistakes; verify the reasoning and use the assistance your teacher permits.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Pythagorean theorem work for every triangle?
No. It applies to right triangles. For other triangles, you may need the law of cosines or additional angle information.
Can I upload a photo or type a question?
Yes. Use a clear, well-lit photo with the whole question visible, or type the prompt. Include any diagram, units, and instructions needed to interpret it.
